So, the most common question people are asking is, how can I help Haiti in the aftermath of the Earthquake?
This is a great question. The answer is simple…..LOTS. There is so much you can do for Haiti as we speak. You can be active in making a HUGE difference.
Our team spent the last week in Haiti working as hard as we could to make a small difference in a HUGE disaster. Our prayer is that we would change and save at least one life. I am thankful that God allowed us the chance to serve. In our time there we identified some great needs of the Haitian people. So I am going to share some of what we found.
1. Prayer, Prayer Prayer. The power of prayer is amazing. The people of Haiti need us to pray for their safety, their provision and their health. They have so much pain and hurt they hold inside. We need to pray for God’s supernatural healing and care for them. We can ALL be part of serving them in this way.
2. Antibiotics….The wounds and injuries are beyond number in the city of Port au Prince. Now the triage and response of immediate care is coming to an end. The time has come for maintaining wounds and facilitating the healing process. To do this the people need antibiotics in MASS. Your and your church can collect those items. UPS and FedEx are offering special rates for shipping items For Haiti Relief. The best thing to do is ship those items to Safe Water Nexus. Once those items are collected they are directly distributed to doctors, nurses and clinics on the ground. They are not collected and stored, they are immediately given to the paces where they are needed the most. You can also use local ministries going into Haiti to do the same. But these meds are needed so desperately.
3. Water Water Water….There is a need to ship water in mass. Again, you can do this on your own. As of now Mission Flights International in Ft. Pierce, FL, is doing this directly through generously donated planes. If you can get your stuff to Ft. Pierce, they can do the rest. Another way to help with this is to send water filtering devices to Haiti. The best brand to use is Katadyn. Look them up online and you can send your stuff through Missionary Flights as well. Also, look for International Water Mission to offer support as well.
4. Money…..There is so much money needed to help with the supplies, shipping, transporting and rebuilding. The people there do not have the resources needed to truly rebuild and restart. Our team did a lot of moving of funds this week to enable rebuilding and replenishment in Haiti. If you want to find a great place to give consider Safe Water Nexus. 100% of the money donated is given directly to the people and ministries in Haiti. They are helping to rebuild churches, orphanages and missions. All gifts are tax deductible and can even be added to your 2009 taxes! You can give to Safe Water Nexus by clicking here!
5. Going to serve….the reason this is listed last is that the above needs are truly the greatest. The primary people needed on the ground to serve as of now are doctors and nurses to provide care for the wounded and sick. If that is you, contact me by clicking here and we can help get you into Haiti. If you are looking for other ways to go and serve I have connections with lots of Mission Organizations in Haiti that have lots of opportunities to serve. here will be no less than 18 trips available through my groups in the course of 2010. Stay tuned for opportunities as the details become available.
Thank you so much for your heart to serve and care for the people of Haiti. This is when we put our faith into action and let people see that what we say we believe we actually live out. You and I can put James 2:14-20 into practice and live out James 1:27 as well.
God has bee all sufficient for a hurting people in Haiti. Keep praying that God works amazing miracles in the coming weeks and months as Haiti rebuilds.

Michael,
Nic Allen is our Youth Minister at Rolling Hills Community Church and he has recommended that I contact you about a possible mission trip to Haiti. I am the Executive Director of Justice and Mercy International out of Nashville, a nonprofit that was formed by our church to do missions work. Orphan ministry is a particular specialty of ours and I’ve been involved with that in the Republic of Moldova for 10 years. I’d love to discuss the possibilities with you, either by email or phone (615-861-3663) at your earliest possible convenience. We had been contemplating a trip in the fall or around Christmas, but we’re flexible on that if we can get enough logistics worked out. Look forward to hearing from you!
